Favorite Quote: “Life just tastes sweeter after you’ve licked death.”
Samantha is a normal girl living in Missouri, dreaming of living in New York and becoming a musician until suddenly, she isn’t. When her father abruptly dies, Samantha is forced to make a run for the Oregon Trail after committing a crime she never meant to commit. This may sound like a simple task, however the year is 1849, she is a female, she has no supplies, and she is also Chinese during a very racist time. Not to mention, she is bringing a runaway slave with her named Annamae. With authorities gaining on them each day, they have no choice, but to dress up as boys and hope for the best as they make their journey west. However, when things get harder than ever, they just might have to enlist the help of a few friendly cowboys. In this book, brilliant author Stacey Lee will show you the wild west from a perspective not written about before.
My favorite character is Samantha (or Sam when dressed as a boy). she is bold, crafty, and faithful
You should read Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee because it has something for everyone. Action, thrill, the wild west, Asian culture, and a hint of romance are only a few of the things it posses. Not only this, but I don’t know of another book like it. If you are looking for a book that will keep you on your toes, then this book is for you.
